Pforzheim is still a watchmaking city
Pforzheim is the biggest German cluster in the Atlas, and that matters because the city is more than a mailing address. Multiple brands design, assemble or manufacture watches there, often drawing on a local supplier network with roots that go back generations. Hamburg, Stuttgart, Berlin, Glashütte and other cities add their own pockets of watchmaking, so Germany's independent scene feels less like one center and more like an ecosystem.
German watches aren't just Bauhaus watches
Minimalism is part of the story, but the catalog is much broader: divers, field watches, pilots, chronographs, skeletons, dress watches and plenty of hard-use tool pieces all show up. The production stories vary too. Some brands assemble in Germany, some work across Germany and Switzerland, and some use outside manufacturing partners. Atlas keeps design, assembly and sourcing separate where the information is available, so "German watch brand" stays useful without pretending it answers every manufacturing question.
